5 Simple Desk Must-Haves that Make You Want to Go Into Work Every Day

Let's be honest. Working in an office is not the most thrilling thing to look forward to when you wake up each and every day. The majority of the population try and avoid a desk job as much as humanly possible.

On the other hand, if you are anything like me, my desk is my sanctuary. All I've ever wanted since I started working the office life was my own space. A home away from home. Somewhere in the workplace I could show off and share my tastes, and at the same time give everyone else in the office a little desk envy.

I am giving you a little peak into my absolute top 5 must simple haves that get me excited to hop out of bed and spend a day at my desk:

1. A Coffee Press

My extra large cup of coffee is the highlight of my morning. But when I started to take a closer look at my budget, I knew the first thing I needed to cut back on my Starbucks purchases. This started with switching to drinking the office coffee.

Almost always, the office coffee is going to be crap.

Life is too short to drink shitty coffee. Go and get yourself a french coffee press and brew your favourite roast. This alone is what has me rushing to get into the office early each and every morning.

2. Your Own Mug

All of our office mugs were the wrong size, a weird shape, or old and stained. I also hated the idea of sharing these dirty, poorly cleaned mugs with my co-workers. An easy fix? Get yourself a mug you LOVE!

I keep this beautiful mug at my desk and full of delicious Kicking Horse coffee and dairy-free creamer all morning.

3. A Pair of Blue-Light Blocking Glasses

DO NOT READ PAST THIS ONE! This was a HUGE game changer for me. I have been working over six years staring at a computer screen for forty hours, usually in 10 hour ore more days.

At the end of each day without fail, I was so incredibly tired! I could no longer read what was right in front of me on my screen, and I could barley hold my eyes open on the 5-minute drive home. For years I thought it must be the actual work itself tiring me out, or a health deficiency. Turns out my eyes just needed a little self-care!

While my vision itself is near perfect, I do have a lazy eye, therefore my optometrist recommended a prescription with a blue light filter lens. I splurged and got a beautiful pair of Ray-Bans that I am excited to wear at the office each and every day.

But there are a ton of affordable blue light blocking options on the market if you do not need prescription glasses. Blue Blocking is one of my favourite and most stylish places to help your eyes with screen time. I keep these ones at home for browsing on the laptop or cellphone.

4. A Passion Planner

If your agenda book is an eyesore with nothing in it but appointments and to-do's, you're gonna have a bad time. You're going to keep it in your bag, hide it in your desk - too embarrassed to pull it out, or even leave it at home.

In comes the Passion Planner. More than just a daily planner, The Passion Planner is my journal, my diary, my coach to keep me on track and accountable towards reaching my goals.

The Passion Planner totally changes the niche of nerdy, mom-like agenda books. The cover is an absolutely stunning array of rose gold line drawn flowers, and a geometric design.

I love showing off and displaying my Passion Planner on my desk throughout the day, always within an arms reach to jot down and check off to-do lists.

Stay tuned for a closer look inside my Passion Planner and for my official review.

5. Something Green!

And by this, I mean a plant. Or a flower, Something alive that reminds you of the outdoors! Especially if your office doesn't have any windows.

The secret behind this that gets you excited is a plant gives you purpose. It provides a need and responsibility to take care of every day.

This being said, you probably also want to keep it pretty low maintenance. I get it, you're working, not gardening! I'm only in the office four days a week and do not have anything close to a green thumb, so I opted for a little air plant.

No sunlight required, no potting soil. It just needs a good soak about once a month and that's it. And don't forget a little bit of love :)
